This interactive map tracks the global diffusion of Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding assistant, across cities and countries from February 2025 through March 15, 2026. We identify Claude Code usage by scanning GitHub commit messages for a default Co-Authored-By trailer that Claude Code appends to commits.
We geolocated 2 million active GitHub accounts and tracked their commits at weekly resolution. Four metrics are available: Commit % (CC-authored commits as a share of all commits), User % (active CC users as a share of weekly active developers), User Count (cumulative CC adopters), and Per Capita (users per 100K population). Cities are shown only if they have at least 10 cumulative Claude Code users.
Important limitations: This data covers only public repositories on GitHub. The trailer is opt-out, so developers who disable it are invisible, making counts a lower bound. Geolocation relies on self-reported GitHub profile locations.
